Sherry Strickland Martin: May 2013 Grand Strand Visual Artist of the Month

Sherry Strickland Martin specializes in Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media and 2-D Design. Sherry received her BA in Studio Art at Limestone College in 1982. As a producing Fine Artist, she has shown her work in galleries and museums throughout the region. Sherry has participated in juried exhibitions, taught workshops, and does commissioned portraits and landscapes for the public. She is considered a watercolorist, but enjoys many mediums.

Sherry incorporated her art company in 2001, creating cover artwork/designs for house wares product manufacturers nationwide through licensing. Products include: fabric design, note cards, woven tapestry items, internationally produced prints, dinnerware for International China, wastebaskets for Target, serving trays for Stein Mart and a host of others. Sherry was commissioned by the Cincinnati Bengals NFL team for figure portraits and has done sports artworks for PGA and NBA players, Clemson University and the University of Georgia. She was nominated for Sports Artist of the Year in 2006.

In 2007, Sherry moved home to Myrtle Beach after a bout with breast cancer to be closer to family and to start a new career teaching visual arts at St. James High School in Murrells Inlet. Sherry continues to produce her own work, and enjoys sharing what she creates with her students.
